Never thought of it like that, but you may be spot on.
I had an aunt and uncle that were in some sort of weird organization back in PA long ago (they are all dead now) and they had titles like 'Worthy Advisor' and they carried flags and had conventions. My mother's brother and his wife were in it. Mom didn't know much about it but thought it was kind of funny in a cultish kind of way. I just now finally looked it up to read what they were in and it was this:
Order of the Eastern Star, and their daughters were 'Rainbow Girls'.
And then I found this:
"Members of the Order of the Eastern Star are aged 18 and older; men must be Master Masons and women must have specific relationships with Masons. Originally, a woman would have to be the daughter, widow, wife, sister, or mother of a Master Mason. The Order now allows other relatives[2] as well as allowing Job's Daughters, Rainbow Girls, and Members of the Organization of Triangles (NY only) to become members when of age."
So they were Masons! And Uncle was a Master Mason! Who knew!?
