(Hence, the scripture that a man will leave his parents and cleave to his wife, and they become "one flesh".)

This can even eventually generate new life, as if / when they interact sexually, and their sperm/eggs meet, that sperm and egg establish that same reciprocal relationship, and a child is conceived.

The real experience of heartache and pain that happens when a treasured connection is lost (e.g. relationship breakup) is because something is being destroyed, dying as it were: the unity that was once established by the relationship.

If we consider that 'the devil/Satan' is a spiritual being that became a force unto itself in the direction of evil (aka the opposite of the direction of God the Creator), then when a person undertakes actions, intent, purposes that align with that evil direction, they form a relationship with Satan aka the center of evil.

This relationship might be initiated by Satan via one of the myriad evil spirits that themselves are connected to and "united' with Satan (aka under the direct influence and control of Satan), and the person responds - i.e. being tempted to do something evil and then responding to that temptation.

Satan influences the world via millions and millions of evil spirits connected to him and bound by the reciprocal connection established via receiving influence, energy, direction, emotional power, etc, from the Satanic center, and then responding.

However, the nature of evil is that it enslaves. Once that connection is made, the stronger it gets, the harder it is to break free.

This is the opposite of how God works. God works through love and truth. When we respond to God's truth (in whatever form it comes to us), and we return faith, love, loyalty, etc in response, then we establish a reciprocal connection with God and the relationship can begin to grow. The ultimate purpose of that connection is to become unified with God, to enter into a unity with God where God manifests as our center and heart, and we are the flesh or body (aka "temple") of God.

This is the state of being that Jesus accomplished and perfected for the first time in human history, but it is, in my understanding, the purpose for which each and every human being is created.

Our true nature is from God, and so establishing a unity and reciprocal connection with God is the manifestation of our true, original nature. However, we also have fallen nature from Satan, received by our ancestors "Adam and Eve" when they established a give-and-receive relationship with Lucifer, one that ripped them away from God (their connection with Lucifer overwhelmed and destroyed their growing connection with God) and created such a bond of unity with evil that it was inherited and passed down through each generation, such that God has been working since that long distant history to slowly build his connection with us, via increasingly revealing truth, reviving our capacity for faith, love and goodness, the purpose of which is to eventually rescue us completely from Satan's "orbit" and pull us completely in to his own.

That separation from evil is begun spiritually through the relationship with Jesus, but (obviously) is incomplete, as the war still ages on. But the promise and prophecy of the Kingdom of Heaven (on Earth AS IN 'heaven' (spiritual realms)) is a message of truth that ultimately, humanity will be removed from Satan's orbit and become completely free to manifest fully our own true, God-given nature.
