This is the way. It drove me nuts when my bishop said the city was requiring everyone to state what they could provide during an emergency.
I was blown away, this wasn't a church prep, he was warning the families in our ward about the government's request. He made it clear that in an emergency we should all work together & let EQ & Relief Society heads know what was needed & what services we could provide. Also sounded like he was willing to have Aaronic priesthood members go out & get reports once the issue happened because many members already knew the basics of what each other was able to do & who had tool, building, medical & radio knowledge.
I recall our EQ president at that time telling us he didn't want to know how much food storage any of us had & that he hoped we were following decades old council, though we should pray about it individually & prepare for what we needed as the spirit prompted each family. If you were just there transitioning to a new place in a year or two, a year or two of storage fan be alot to move around. If you are staying out of 10+ years, you should likely build up a years worth or more.
My biggest concern with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints had been the mass sale of their farmlands to developers in the past 10 years. Land that was fully owned & producing lots of food is being sold. I don't know if they are simply reinvesting in cheaper farmland elsewhere with the sale of older land that is more valuable for developers, it just is an interesting thing to see happen as the local farms we used to serve at are now being developed all across Utah.
Interesting times ahead for sure.
