The idea that the people with access to advanced offworld tech and possibly the off worlders behind that tech, would inevitably self isolated. Now tie this concept to the powerful, insanely rich and ancient families that we know has enormous sway over world events.

Yes, the concept of non-human intelligence being here is the biggest story in the history of human civilization. But we need to understand the power structure that was built around that fact if we want to have a chance at living free, sovereign lives.
