I'm sure he had every intention of keeping all those promises he made, but reality got in the way. He hasn't given any details of how he plans to have the fastest recovery, so we don't even have any idea how he plans to make those statements a reality.

Look at how long it took for us to recover from the Great Depression and the Great Recession. Having our entire financial system collapse would be exponentially worse than both of those. There's only so much the President can do to help the economy. The rest is dependent on other factors beyond his control.

And even if he did manage to have the fastest rebuild in history and was able to accomplish it in less than four years, most people only remember the negative aspects of the economy during a President's term, not the recovery. So his legacy would be tainted with being associated with the worst financial crisis ever seen.
