Understand your point, but even the founders knew that "periodically, the Republic will need to take refuge in strong Executive, when all other institutions have been corrupted". It was based on the extensive experience of the Roman Republic. Checks and balances were put in place specifically to keep a "strong Executive" from becoming an Emperor and dissolving the other branches.
We are currently in a situation where the captured Congress is attempting control the Courts and effectively dissolve the Executive's power (by preventing him from firing agency people). A "military dictatorship" is fully legally and Constitutionally justified at this point, but the optics are troublesome if you want to avoid a Civil War.
