Apply the Infiltration instead of Invasion filter, because it’s been done to the Catholic Church, and many, many other organizations as well:
Any time there is an abundance of some resource that some people want in the possession of an individual or group, some unscrupulous people, upon finding out about it, will try to invade therein to get at that resource.
The Catholic Church has been infiltrated many times to get at money/power, and is famous for having had that done in the Middle Ages.
More recently, Schools and Churches have been infiltrated to get at children Governments are infiltrated to get at power and resources.
The Synagogues of that day were infiltrated to get at ________?
It’s not that the Pharisees and Sadducees were universally a brood of vipers (which was called by John the Baptist, and Synagogue of Satan is in Revelation), Jesus himself likely leaned toward the Pharisaic school of approach to scripture (https://www.quora.com/Was-Jesus-a-Pharisee), it’s that infiltrators were trying, in the infancy of the messianic era, to come in along the wheat before it was ready to harvest, and were told to leave. They made it in later, but after redemption had been accomplished.
It may be that one of our goals now is to work out how to remove infiltration, to prepare the way of The Lord, that The Kingdom might be established/restored.
