Its hard for older folks when their adult children are all dead, and they are ill, but lumped with looking after bereaved, disillusioned grandchildren. And that is what is happening - so one can understand the sentiment. However, it is of their own making: The Ukraine government, in their rush to attack their own in Donbass, have allowed all the most productive members of society to be turned into cannon-fodder, and they already had a (Western) fertility issue, so there is not a crop of Ukrainian children to replace them. Oops.

I don't think that the preferred list of immigrants (ex-soviet, please. LOL. Although perhaps there is that wee hankering for the way it was, and how Soviet things were not so bad after all. Double LOL) will fly, in a victorious Ukraine. There are three million Afghan refugees available right now, oh and 6 million odd Palestinian ones. Hey and lots of Russian-speaking ISraelis would give their right arm to move (back to) a cozy victorious Western Ukraine ....What could possibly go wrong? But that is still in a hypothetical stage.

But there is a problem: such an influx (of refugees, because that is all Ukraine could attract, once the guns stop firing) will not look after the Babuskas sitting in a dacha with their grandchildren, faced with no food or firewood... The Ukranians left behind, shall need financial and physical (infrastructure) support. And who is going to pay for that? So already, Ukraine has to compete for productive people on the global open market for skilled individuals, with no money. Oh look, here is the list of countries not in an open-fire style war right now, says the competent refugee. YEs, Ukraine needs nurses, teachers, competent and honest bureaucrats (ex-soviet please, LOL). So does everyone else. What they will get, in this scenario, is the dregs, only deepening the economic problem.

TBH the alternative is to let the Russians do it - they always did. And they have the resources. They not only speak Russian, hah, but will immediatly feed everyone and make new, modern commie blocks. They will come in with an entire cadre of advisors to make schools and hospitals great again, just the way Ukrainians like it.
