I'm with you. I'm a film and music buff and it's something I often contemplate. Thus far, I've been able to compartmentalize my feelings about a film or music so I can still enjoy some of them. Even my older favorites through the years. I still consume it all. But I was never one to let art influence my life in any major way. Discernment comes in handy. And "know thyself" is a huge part of it.

In the end, I think the arts will follow society with an awakening.

The Renaissance is a good example of this, along with many other eras.

If you took the root of all evil, ie, the pursuit of money out of the equation, would film have devolved into what it is? I don't think so. Once the "audience" changes, so to do the arts.

TL/DR

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Like what you like. But take it for what it is, consume it, but don't let it consume you.
