That only works if spare parts are available to keep them going. My wonderful 28yo VW ran like a dream; went in for its annual road test (I'm in the UK) and failed on a small component that could not be sourced. It had to be scrapped. Replaced it with a new car which my mechanic could not maintain as it needs computerised whatever. Having lovingly maintained it and kept me on the road for two decades we were both almost in tears.

I still miss my old bus and dear Pete, whose bills never came to as much as his estimates. Lost two gems.
