Oh dear. I think you are missing the point. They are not claiming the WHOLE Indian Ocean all the way to Austraya. They are stopping ships from Israel because of the Genocide in Palestine, IN the Indian Ocean. NOT the Red Sea or the Arabian Sea.

Houthis say they have hypersonics that will reach the Cape of Good Hope, thus effectively stopping traffic around Africa that was previously going through Suez. Understand it is mostly insurance companies who dictate where these ships go. If they don't want to take the risk, then that route is effectively closed (but not to Russian, Chinese or Indian shipping).
