I remember the EXACT same world here in Canada in the early 60's:

  • Great home-cooked meals, coming home from public school for lunch, roast beef on Sunday after church
  • Respect for elders was MANDATORY or you would get clipped on the ear by Dad. Being saucy with your parents was a sure-fire way to get sent to your room for the evening (as was not saying please and thank-you)
  • My sister and I helped with chores daily (dishes, garbage, lawn mowing, snow shoveling and anything else Mom asked us to do)
  • We had everything we needed (not everything we wanted). I had a baseball glove and a bicycle and I made good use of both on a daily basis.
  • There were no visible homosexuals, trannies and pedophiles (although all three probably existed outside of public view)
  • Our parents knew who our friends (and their parents) were and made sure we hung around with the right crowd.
  • My parents placed a high priority on hard work at school, at home and at church (not in that order)
  • We were a Christian home and thanked God before every meal, read the Bible in the home after supper and went to church every Sunday. My Dad prayed in the basement early in the morning before he went to work. In fact, it was one of those early mornings that he led me to accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Saviour.

Thank-you purkiss80 for helping me remember the good, old days. When I look at the world today, it makes me sad because I remember how good it used to be. This generation has no idea how to think for themselves, how to love the Lord and lead a righteous and productive life. God bless you.
