Because no one really wants to be taxed, (no, it is not a bargain to be taxed in exchange for the other abuses we receive as part of our citizenship) and if it could be beaten back, then many others from all sides of the political spectrum would join.

It could very well become a unifying moment of such an overwhelming majority that it reaches 100:1 or even greater ratios.
