Democracy is literally the rule of the minority by the majority.

Without rules (and weapons, as a last resort) protecting the rights of EVERYONE, democracy always devolves into tyranny.

The voters in a democracy should NEVER be allowed to vote away a single other person's rights, property, or life.

EDIT: That's why America is a Republic, not a democracy . . . although I have quarrels even with that . . . a republic is just:

. . . which doesn't prevent "the people and their elected representatives" from being dickheads and tyrants.
