Merchan is an actor in the play. His role is to set a precedent so that Trump and/or military can go after the others. However, for Trump, he has provided two ways to avoid conviction - i) unconstitutional jury rules that may be appealed, and ii) compromised jury via the juror’s cousin’s tweet, resulting in mistrial. Methinks the real bad guys won’t have the same “out” provided in their cases.

Spez: there’s a 3rd “out” for Trump, which is harder to prove, but is possible, and that is if Trump can show, upon appeal, that there was an unequal application of the law - eg there are similar (or worse) cases that Bragg opted not to pursue, and that this is politically motivated. I do think this may come into play, and it’ll give Trump’s attorneys a way to introduce actual deep state crimes to the docket while simultaneously exonerating Trump.
