BTW: they are trying that language coercion in reverse in NZ: Everyone speaks the lingua franca that happens to be the crown English, but the National languages are determined to be Maori (pidgin, because it derived from hundreds of dialects - and Dutch and English) and Sign Language. NOT English. Even though everyone speaks it.
