Unrelated to this thread, but I got the most amazing response from someone last week.
While explaining Chevron and how important it is, I noted that the administrative agencies can effectively write their own laws, enforce their own laws, and try cases against their laws in their own administrative courts. Further, the president can’t fire their employees, though they’re allegedly under the executive branch, and all he can do is appoint the department head, who has to be approved by Congress, and even he can’t really fire them. They’re unelected, write most of our laws, and we have no recourse to them. There are even agencies that Congress can’t defund, even if they wanted to.
The response I got back was:
“Should we elect them?”
