The option for a democratic VP to block an elected Trump to be nullified
To protect Trump in terms of optics

Notice how the Trump-Pence kayfabe began ONLY after the stolen election (Nov 2023). Why did not Trump say ANYTHING about Pence prior to that? Because after that point in time, Trump was preparing to implement a continuity of government policy, and Pence HAD to play middle man, and play up the idea that he and Trump disagreed.
