Try the VA down the street. /s
UofM saved my husbands life. He got a rare cancer two months after he contacted covid in Oct 2021. He spent 8 days in covid care and I spent 17 days in ICU in Jackson. Jeffs cancer appeared as a blood clot in Jan of 22 He is Vax free. We kinda wondered if it has to do with his not knowing to refuse remdesivier.
Jeff did 6 rounds of chemo in Jackson because we had to be at the hospital three days a week and we live about an hour away from A2 and are over 60. I literally saw the oncologist consult a flow chart. It was an awful experience. Jeff ended up with damage to his heart from the chemo. He was hospitalized every 1/2 point between the chemo weeks because they didn't notice that he was deficient in magnesium. I did! Once I couldn't get an ER/Floor Dr to coordinate with his vascular/cardiologist/chemo Dr's. He said he didn't need to. He even tried to say my husband was schizophrenic after a seizure. I reported him to the hospital board. I hoped he was reprimanded at the very least. We haven't been back.
The VA was even worse. Before Biden came in Jeff was treated like a king at the VA. Once Biden came in they literally tried to kill him. They stopped paying his copays and when he got to $1k, they garnished his Soc Sec when he got it the following November. They threatened him that he would have to leave the state for his bone marrow and told him he couldn't smoke pot or they would deny him his transplant. A cancer patient!!! As it was they delayed it for 4 months. They literally pulled all his teeth (they claimed they didn't want him to get an infection during the BMT). They threatened to not pay the bill at UofM despite jeffs multi faceted needs. They refused to give him dentures to this day. I had to fight them every step of the way and once his Medicare kicked in we refused to have anything to do with them. He spent 8 years in the navy. I won't forgive them.
He had a great team at UofM. The nurses were great, The Drs in vascular/cardiologist /BMT team and oncology all take the time to discuss his case. Even the people drawing blood are good. I never left his side for the entire transplant and go to each of his appointments and they never hesitate to take care of my needs too. The only negative was we couldn't request Vax free blood.
During this same time my Dad was going thru multiple hospitalizations in Eaton Rapids a small community hospital out side of Lansing and my mom in in a nursing home in Spring Arbor.
As much as I hate being involved in health care because I trust no one, I've had a lot of experience with it since the covid crap. I will defend the U.
