Hm. 911 is your emergency number too. Perhaps just easy to think of as a date. And year 2001 was used a lot in science fiction of last century simply because it was seen as the beginning of the future, being the beginning of not just the next century, but of the next millennium.

But, okay, also, historically: the Battle of Vienna 1683, the Great Siege of Malta 1565 - started in May, ended on that date, the Muslim expulsion from Spain 1609, announced on that date, and the Battle of Zenta, 1697. Muslims lost all of those, and they were all important battles when it came to keeping Muslims from conquering Europe. Which is presumed to be the reason why 911 happened on 911.

So, did those dates have anything to do as to why 911 was chosen as the emergency number back in the day?

Who knows. Officially the explanation seems to be just that it is easy to remember, was easy to dial in the old rotary phones, and was not in use as an office code, area code, or service code when the new emergency number was chosen.
