It's kinda like the Santa Claus story. Everyone knows the truth, that you'd be super disappointed if you believed on Dec. 24/25 he was supposed to do what the legend says. Every year, no presents, your chimney undisturbed, not a sooty footprint in sight! Yet we still enjoy telling kids this little white lie and letting them have some fun with the fantasy, because harmless tradition.
Similarly, you'd be super disappointed if you believed each datefag that came along. Yet we still enjoy having fun with some little white datefagging.
And just like the Santa story doesn't replace the true understanding of the actual Christmas story, datefagging doesn't replace the true understanding of the actual Plan to Save the World. :)
