I checked out a couple new pagers and they all came w charging cords, so I’m assuming it has a small Li ion batt in them. But the injuries are not consistent with thermal deflagration. I read they had recently received a new shipment of pagers, I’m guessing MOS got to them somewhere before they were delivered.

Edit - that was a programming cable. The ones I just looked at use AAA batts.
