Christmas is about the worst time of year for me these days. Part of my family, who is still Christian, decided it was founded on lies and unbiblical, for which a good case can be made, and responded by completely disengaging with it, so now the family is split every year.
I tend to think that even if that prognosis is correct, creating turmoil and being impatiently judgmental is not the proper response, but then there’s Matthew 10:34, Matthew 10:37, Jeremiah 10:2, Leviticus to contend with.
And the whole while, everyone gets older, while the stubborn on both sides stay fixed in their ways.
Leviticus 18:26-29 - 26 But you are to keep my statutes and ordinances. You must not commit any of these detestable acts—not the native or the alien who resides among you. 27 For the people who were in the land prior to you have committed all these detestable acts, and the land has become defiled. 28 If you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it has vomited out the nations that were before you. 29 Any person who does any of these detestable practices is to be cut off from his people.
2 Timothy 3:1-7 - 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
I always hope that verses like that don’t apply to me, yet there are sins I’ve not yet put away, and God is no respecter of men, so my prayer remains that Jesus’s grace is sufficient.
