The Bosporus Straits is where the Black Sea empties into the Mediterranean. They are in Istanbul Turkey and factored heavily in the Byzantines conquering Constantinople. There was a chain across the straits the Byzantine ships could not cross. Mehmet II had his ships bivouaced across the peninsula and set to sea behind the chain. Edit bivouaced is the wrong word. Interestingly, even way before the Golden Horde, Crimea was a Greek colony and many of its cities are Greek in origin.
