Today I learned sports betting was legalized with the Supporting Affordability and Fairness in Every Bet Act, or SAFE Act.
In 2018.
Meaning it was signed into law by Donald Trump.
Every single major sport has become infested with gambling and gambling advertisements therein since.
What the hell? Why would Donald Trump sign that stupid thing?
Serious question, please, I'd like to know the reasoning here!
It can't be to bring the already-corrupt sports leagues down--he made that crap legal!
Here's a great rant from a basketball fan, which taught me about the law that legalized it.
Yes, I know, sports leagues were already rotten--I haven't watched their games directly in years, largely for this reason (and wokeness is the rest).
I just want to know why Trump would sign that into law. Is this part of the dismantling of institutions?
EDIT: Turns out there was also a SCOTUS decision that year that struck down the ban on sports gambling. It was a 7-2 decision. Ouch.
