Yes. Anytime someone holds up the term former CIA should give us pause.

Here is another reason to question. The idea that China would have this level of technology is laughable; however, there are interests that want us to think they do. I will give you just two: 1) The CCP is good at propaganda that touts tech advancement far beyond what they actually possess and the world has believed it. 2) The DS here would also benefit from such balderdash to create a bogyman - it is great for business.

As a long term China watcher I seriously question the validity of the claims being made in this letter just based upon what I already know about China regardless of other issues brought up in this thread to be taken into consideration.

China can copy what they manage to steal. They are incapable of innovation and development of technologies that are sophisticated. What they do manage to copy is substandard and often fails in application, especially when it involves high tech beyond normal commercial manufacturing. They cannot build anything advanced that is not a pile of crap. They cannot even build a homegrown phone that is not junk. Anyone that takes the time to look at what they produce for their military will see how far behind they really are. (Just ask the Russians how well Chinese weapons, advanced precision machinery, and cars actually perform.) However, their propaganda tries to convince the world they possess technology on par with, or even beyond, what we have in the West. It is all a facade and all for show. The propaganda does not match the reality.

I could list a variety of well founded reasons why China could not possibly have the type of technology being discussed in this letter. So on that basis alone I call BS. So, the question now becomes why someone wants us to think that these assertions are somehow real.
