Let me give you the OTHER piece of the puzzle:
According to John Ioannidis, professor at Stanford School of Medicine, MOST scientific research is FALSE.
"Why Most Published Research Findings Are False" is a 2005 essay written by John Ioannidis, a professor at the Stanford School of Medicine, and published in PLOS Medicine. It is considered foundational to the field of metascience.
In the paper, Ioannidis argued that a large number, if not the majority, of published medical research papers contain results that cannot be replicated. In simple terms, the essay states that scientists use hypothesis testing to determine whether scientific discoveries are significant. Statistical significance is formalized in terms of probability, with its p-value measure being reported in the scientific literature as a screening mechanism. Ioannidis posited assumptions about the way people perform and report these tests; then he constructed a statistical model which indicates that most published findings are likely false positive results.

In addition, TWO former editors of prestigious medical journals -- New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet -- both, independently, stated that MOST of the research published in their journals is FALSE.
(Don't have links; just read it a few years ago.)
So, [they] funnel ALL "research" through a LIMITED system where funding MUST be provided by government or government-funded universities, and then they LIE about the results of the studies.
If they want to prove "X," but their studies do not support it, they IGNORE the study and do not publish.
Or, they come up with FALSE CLAIMS to supposedly "prove" what they want people to believe.
Or, they pay "peers" to "review," but those peers do NOT replicate the studies. Instead, they simply read it and sign off on it. In MANY cases, those "peers" DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE READING, but they sign off on it, anyway ($$$$$$$$$$).
Finally, these FALSE conclusions are pushed through the mainstream media channels so that millions of people believe nonsense, and not 1 in 10,000 people will check for themselves, so they all echo chamber each other, thinking that "everybody knows" such and such.
"The mission of the CIA will be complete when everything the American people believes is false." -- CIA Director William Casey, reporting to President Ronald Reagan, regarding the mission of the CIA.
Edit to Add:
The Scientific Method REQUIRES that more than one person do the SAME research and get the SAME result, or else IT IS NOT SCIENCE.
Today's so-called "scientists" have been taught that "peer review" is how to do science. Nevermind that those peers have no clue what they are even reviewing.
Allan Savory, one of the world's experts in turning what appears to be worthless land into lush land that can be farmed, has stated that the younger people who come to work with him have graduated from university and they WILL NOT ACCEPT anything as being scientific unless it has been peer-reviewed. Savory has no words for such stupidity, as that is NOT science at all.
