If you have a good team in business, you need to keep them engaged or they get bored/complacent and then get poached. Vance has a whole successful career in Silicon Valley waiting for him at a time that will probably rival the Internet in terms of importance. He could arguably have much more power there than as a VP...we don't remember those guys unless they become president, which is probably on his mind daily.
