There’s a disturbing amount of people on both sides of the political divide. Who are deadset on the belief everyone can function together peacefully. And that the power of love and friendship will inevitably triumph over trivial cultural, religious, ethnic, and National Differences.
Despite all evidence to the contrary that these differences are neither trivial nor receptive to ‘The power of friendship and understanding’ magically resolving them.
Both are fundamentally doing it under two sides of the same coin. A sort of blank slate Universalism. The Right leaning who do it. Come at from a Christian Universalism perspective. The Left who do it come out from a perspective based off the Post WW2 international order and the logical extrapolation endpoint of the prevailing liberal beliefs of the era.
Both are quite willing to let other people who aren’t them suffer and die. Trying time and time again to make it work
