TL;DR at the bottom

NG is poorly trained. I was an E-3 (Private first Class) and had an NTC mission come up before I deployed. Mind you, I had already gone to JRTC a few months prior in preperation for our Baghdad,Iraq deployment. Turns out, we were going up there to help facilitate the training of NG soldiers. One night, I was on staff duty with another E-6 who was my squad leader. We were both squared away soldiers, knew our job inside and out. Also, the squad leader who I was on staff duty with was my actual squad leader who had spent a good 6-8 months 'smoking' my balls off back at Ft. Drum. His leadership and another Corporeal (Williams) were the reason I came back home from Shitghanistan. I digress though. So there we were, chilling behind the staff duty desks, doing our 1-2 hr rotation(I don't remember how long we had to be there) and this tall E-6 comes in, no combat patch or anything and asks us how we're suppose to stack a building. My squad leader and I looked at each other and gave each other a, ' is this guy serious' look. Turns out, he WAS serious. He admitted he didn't properly know how to stack and clear a building. So my squad leader thought it'd be funny to have his PFC(E-3) school this E-6 on how to stack/clear a building. I proceeded to take him outside and teach him how to stack/clear, while my squad leader watched in surprise. He later told me, he thought it was funny asf and told me he was proud to have me in his platoon.

TL;DR: NG troops are poorly trained. I'd say about 10-20% probably came from Active duty and know their shit. The other 80% are just civilians who want the benefits of serving but don't want to fight for their country. Hence, the 'Weekend Warriors/Nasty Girl' label from active duty/Infantry guys. Also, don't take this post the wrong way. These soldiers WILL fight if they have to, they just wont be AS GOOD at it as an Active Duty unit that trains daily and goes to the field for weeks at a time every other month or so.
