Stasi were German state security formed in 1950. They infiltrated every layer of society to surveil the population, as you pointed out. The Brownshirts (SA) and Gestapo (SS) were empowered by the Nazi regime in the 1930s & 1940s to coercively carry out and enforce the tyranical government's will on the population which resulted in the ever increasing curtailing of civil and human rights. They regularly used "public safety and security" as justification for their actions against individuals and groups within the population. I think the pastor got it right. These cops are Nazis/Gestapo/Brownshirts, not Stasi.
