I will add a couple of remarks: HTTPS over DNS is a nice feature, but you would have to check your browser what exactly you can manipulate and what not. It may mean you have to discard your current favorite browser.
You may also be interested in looking into text based browsers. Why? Because many new browsers out there, have a strenuous relationship with hostfiles, as it would normally direct internet traffic, however, certain browsers simply override it.
To understand the routing, consider using a type of traceroute command. It will show you the route your address request is travelling. It teaches you quite a great deal.
When you change your DNS in your browser, your search results may change too. Also the speed in resolution may change, either quicker or slower, depending on the DNS provider.
It would also be a smart thing to have alternative OS's ready. New releases can simply be downloaded as an iso, with all available programs on a 4G large iso-disk.
