I made a breathable mask from 1/8" thick loudspeaker foam sewed to mosquito net for windows. (I couldn't get hold of loudspeaker grill cloth on this island but it sounds ideal.

If all else fails, simply cut out the inner layer(s) from a standard "surgical" mask.

Here in Greece, the airlines INSIST on a surgical mask. They won't let you on board without one. So cutting out the inner layer(s) is the only answer. (You can also glue foam padding inside to space them away from your face.)
