Everything is weird right about now.... Thanks for the feedback.

Nobody else thought my remark was sarcastic.

Comon, you do not know that. No one else commented on your comment! That doesn't mean it was or wasn't read, either way, but it sure doesn't mean that no one else thought it was sarcastic.

You got one upvote - I don't recall if that was me or not - so there is a 50/50 chance that at least ONE other person read it.

"Nobody else thought my remark was sarcastic." You simply cannot draw that conclusion based on the evidence there. (Unless, of course, you had discussions with a large number of people about this comment and they offered you the feedback that "no, I didn't read that as sarcastic at all!")

At least, I can't draw that conclusion. Maybe you can...?

The tone you set with your initial response possibly conditioned me to think you might or were being sarcastic:

Apparently ignorance of the law IS an excuse after all.

I'm pretty sure that could easily be read as sarcastic, depending on context.

Context is everything in language. Also, I was responding to some over-the-top dude who was saying that anyone who even thinks Biden is legit is committing treason!!!!

It is foundational to linguistics and semantics that what seems "straightforward" to a person focused on their own view and statement could very well be ambiguous to someone who is NOT privy to that person's thoughts and ideas that actually are the CONTEXT for the statement.

The fact that YOU think the statement (what you wrote) is straightforward is NOT actually evidence that it is. Really.

you're not bringing your A-game to this thread.

I accept that, but I do know what I'm talking about.

And not just because it's spelled "gauge"

Yah.... Two months back I was doing a translation of several Medical Device Import license applications (in Korean and Japanese) and the issue of gauges was material. I kept getting tripped up (because sometimes I have to take into consideration American English spellings and UK English spellings depending on the client's needs) and I had to look up the gage/gauge issue. Turns out gage is somewhat archaic, and gauge IS the standard now. Looks like I switched this around in my brain. I AM getting older, and under a good deal of stress these days.

https://writingexplained.org/gage-vs-gauge-difference

I'm not trying to be pedantic, and I am trying to not be defensive, but your statement that I was "digging" stuck me as very patently incorrect. (Not only because I KNOW I was not digging or straining to see sarcasm.) I was digging and straining to determine WHAT you actually meant to say.

Because you're digging and straining to see sarcasm where there isn't any.

If you think YOU know what you meant when you wrote that comment, don't you think that I know what I meant when I replied?

Perhaps you simply are overconfident regarding your own opinion? I hope you don't secretly think that you are so much more highly evolved that others aren't up to your level....

I mean you no ill will, but....

Bro, you think that because you know what you intended to say it cannot be anything other than straightforward (even when you get feedback from someone else that it wasn't straightforward to them), then you go ahead and make some lame assessment or judgment over the person saying THEY are doing X, or Y, or N. Then, you think that because no one else gave you that feedback it shows that the feedback itself MUST be wrong! (even when there is no direct evidence (that I can see) that any more than possibly ONE other person even read your comment!

Are you starting to see the picture I see here?

I mean no ill intent, and I'm not attempting to gaslight you, but (full disclosure) I do have a thing about people telling me what I am doing (when they don't know) and asserting their viewpoint as if it is the be-all and end-all (LOL particularly in an area that I have worked in for the past 25+ years!)

Kind of weird. But have a great day.

OK.

I don't mind being weird, particularly if the rest of the world thinks that it's actually sane.

Thanks for commenting, however. I wish you well.
