Incorrect... I'm talking 16-35 year old military aged people ready to fight and die. That number is a lot lower than "gun owners". I'm 51 with a bad knee, high blood pressure, obese, etc etc... I wouldn't last a month in a real war. I'd barely be useful as support personnel. I'm a liability the instant my bad back goes out which wouldn't take very long.

All the best intentions in the world don't change that reality. Just because I might own a gun and I'm willing to fight doesn't mean I'm useful... other than I might have extra ammo/weapons to throw into the pool... and/or food.

With a population of 300-400 mil you aren't going to find more than 50 million people in all of North America that would be willing to fight and truly able to do it. That is still an insane number of people, and there are more than enough weapons and ammo in civilian hands to arm 50 million. Probably twice.
