Good stuff.

3 appears quite a lot in the painting as well, and this is, as I understand it, the number for chaos/new/a new development/a choice. Note that the clock is looking at the 3 on its own face. Time to do something. Time to initiate. Time to make a choice.

The symbol for Saturn is basically "over the heart" of the Jack-in-the-box Rabbit. Saturn = Cronus, often viewed as "Father Time", and sometimes viewed as the equivalent of Satan. Perhaps significant, perhaps not. The symbols appear to be mapped in a "Chakras" sort of way as well.

Also note that the numbers on the book on the piano tally to 17. Sadly I do not have sufficient knowledge of what looks like Japanese to say what the "title of the book" means. The book is closed. Shall Alice open the 17 book and begin to play the music in it?

Just some "first blush" ideas, on seeing it and reading your very good assessment.

EDIT:

A buddy of mine looked at it with me and pointed out that it's more accurate to say that the sign over the heart of the rabbit is Jupiter, not Saturn. I must agree, in reviewing it.

He added:

Jupiter = Thursday = 5

Saturn = Saturday = 7

Mercury = Wednesday = 4

Mars = Tuesday = 3

Venus = Friday = 6

Also, on the time, 3:55. 3+5+5= 13, the unlucky number, and also the Death Card in the Tarot Deck. It also reduces, using gematria, to 4, a New Order.
