Not because it wasn't proven, but because his challenge was technically an "award", not a bet or competition, so according to the court he can set whatever rules he wants and can accept or not accept whatever is given to him.
And before you bring up Koch’s postulates, that is used for bacteria, NOT viruses. Two totally different things. Cowan had to surrender his medical license. He now sells books like every other quack to make money. They are quacks. Medical doctors, while in medical school, only have a few hours worth of lecture on viruses.
