The headaches that can come from high fat low carb eating only occur at the beginning. The cause is twofold: dehydration and loss of mineral electrolytes.

Just like the main cause of a hangover headache is dehydration, so it can happen when you cut carbs way down. This is because when you eat carbs, your body stores much of the excess carbs as glycogen, which is the animal kingdom's version of starch. Glycogen can only be stored attached to water molecules. So when you burn off your glycogen, your body releases a lot of water. This will always result in significant initial water weight loss, and thus also dehydration. You must drink more water during this time. Try a good quality mineral water as it also will help replace your mineral electrolytes.

The other problem is that when your body excretes a lot of water, it also excretes minerals along with it. Sodium, potassium, phosphorous, calcium and magnesium go down the drain with your pee. You probably weren't getting enough of these to begin with, but you may want to supplement with them for a while.

I'm really sorry about your migraines. Migraines can have more than one cause, but one of those causes that is worth considering is mineral deficiencies, particularly magnesium. If your migraines are caused by mineral deficiencies, you will find out by supplementing with them. Best forms to take:

Sodium: Any natural form of salt, like sea salt or Great Salt Lake salt. Don't use the cheap, denatured iodized table salt found everywhere.

Magnesium: Magnesium glycinate or Magnesium taurate. Can also be found in capsule form or in powdered bulk form at bulksupplements.com.

Supplementing with these minerals is also a good way to get rid of muscle cramps.
