They declared support for Russia in the ongoing Ukraine crysis, as fast as they could (though they pressed for 'diplomacy' as to not get directly involved). Not surprising as China wants to see Ukraine fail under NATO and against Russia --- because this strenghtens their bid for Taiwan: they can turn to Taiwan and say "See? The US didn't help Ukraine, they won't help you against us either".

If US was a China puppet, then what follows is everyone would be everyone's puppet. US to China, then by proxy US to Russia (as everyone knows China and Russia are best buddies), then Donetsk and Luhansk to Russia obviously, then (by Putin's statement) Ukraine to the US...
