I would go further to say we are a democratic republic established via constitution. Not just a constitutional republic.

Just throwing the term, “republic” around, does not fully explain our government and is one of the terms thrown around to an uneducated populace. It basically instills a ruling class.

We were formed as a democratic republic to protect us from mob rule and from an elite ruling class. The politicians have moved this country towards a republic while, at the same time, convincing the population that it should be a democracy. If we are a democracy, as it almost stands now (perhaps does stand) and combined with the laziness available in human nature, everyone would vote for the easiest way out and redistribution of wealth. If we are a democracy, then there is really no reason for the electoral college.

If we are a strict republic, then we are Greece, with what amounts to a noble ruling class, and the people have less and less of an influence.

Therefore, we are a democratic republic that is outlined via the constitution. Not a republic and not a democracy.
