you're putting too much thought into this

Nothing personal anon, but every time I've ever heard anyone use this expression, it's nearly always been a person who wasn't particularly good at some mental task like thinking or communicating; or didn't perceive that others may use thinking as a way to learn information, tasks, correct responses, etc. Maybe the person is actually doing just the right amount of thinking, but the observer is unable to ascertain that fact. This is understandable given the difficulty of mind reading in general.

It's been my experience that simpletons tend to resent people with a robust intellect, analytical ability, or critical thinking skills. Possibly because they are able to sense that they lack them and don't know how to go about acquiring them, so it probably feels awkward and frustrating.

But I might be overthinking this, heheheh :p

Again anon, nothing personal, just an observation about the particular phrase used. That doesn't mean my observation is statistically significant; some considerable percentage of those I've heard use the phrase could in fact have been highly intelligent, such as yourself.
