The expense of that education is climbing in cost to lost of life and suffering so high, that it makes one wonder, would it not have been more humane just to let them slowly poison themselves to death?

Right before the execution is supposed to take place, you free the condemned of their binds telling them all is forgiven, they are loved and a valuable member of society, worthy of saving, while someone behind them then shoots them in the back of the head.
