and I'd encourage mods to - instead of stickying their own version of a post that someone's already done - PM that user and ask them if they can alter their post title to make it more sticky-acceptable, and then repost it... and have mods sticky that. Because it makes the user feel like mods care, and helps pedes understand what makes a sticky-worthy post title.

I actually do this. The problem is that I dont get a response back most of the time

Part of this could be that they might not see your DM until at least a few hours after the thread has been up, at which time:

  • the thread has dialogue going on (which would be potentially lost, and people who already commented on the original thread might not want to repeat themselves by commenting again on the same topic), and,
  • the thread has upvotes (for those who care about that).

The thread OPs might not want to pull the plug on a thread that is already going, just to re-name the thread title.

Perhaps another solution would be to suggest a name change, and ask their permission to change it, provided Mods have the ability to edit thread titles on this forum.

This would retain any steam that the thread has already gained.
