This is partially my point. If people feel the need to "self-regulate" or risk being bashed, attacked, and/or have all their ideas hand waved away as "crazy stretches" then we're going to get a culture of fear where people don't post their ideas at all thinking "oh this is dumb" even if it might not be. As I said, this WILL get rid of a lot of junk, but it will also get rid of a lot of potentially great ideas or theories.

The best solution is to just allow and encourage people to post their ideas and if you think they're reaching explain why or move on and ignore. If something is obvious crap it should be easy to explain why. This is what open dialogue is and how you come to logical, well-thought out conclusions. Not by trying to regulate what gets posted for "quality", but by examining ideas as they come and reasoning out what's good and what's junk.

One exception is if people are just posting tired old "theories" that have been talked about again and again with nothing new to add. At that point the discussion has been had and they're just clogging up the board.
