Actually up until sometime in the 80’s or 90’s you had to be a 32nd degree Scottish Rite and/or an Order of the Temple (Knights Templar) in order to become a Shriner. Because of dwindling numbers they changed that rule. I’m in all 3 and also an AMD member. Formally Illuminati Council No. 495 in IL. Haven’t attended any meetings in at least 7 years. I know many Active and Honorary 33rd degree Freemasons. Interesting note. There are only 33 Active 33rd’s in the Northern and 33 Active in the Southern jurisdictions. I would love to do an AMA sometime. I was also present at Harry Truman’s Grandsons 3rd degree in Joliet IL.
