I think you missed my point entirely. GME probably will blow up as expected, but rather than actually paying a bunch of random nobodies everything they've got, they're going to attempt to take their ball and disappear. These people don't give a damn about the rules unless the rules are working in their advantage.

The important point, from what I can see, is that GME has locked up a sizable portion of their funds in limbo at the same time that many of their other revenue streams are drying up. As a whole, their ability to pay the black market which they rely upon for extra-legal operations is vanishing.
