Especially when you get involved in the transhumanist shit, it's possible to invoke some pretty fucked up states of mind by treating others/yourself in very unusual ways. Take spirit cooking for an example: as the one well known practice is to cut deeply into your finger and "drink" the pain, you are essentially reprogramming your response to pain and self harm.
