Consider a growing tomato plant. It is always the tip of the plant that is growing. The older sections of the plant slow down their growth, become rigid but also reinforce the plant so that the upper reaches can continue reaching forward.

It is a principle of the universe to respect those that come before you, but it is also a principle that those who come before should live and sacrifice and value those who come after. This natural principle manifests in the love we have for our children, and why we feel they are so precious.

If the newcomers can learn and inherit from the old-timers, aka veterans, then the newcomers will rise to even greater heights and accomplish things far beyond what the old timers could only think of.
