After 9/11, there was much racial profiling going on, and debates about head coverings and Muslims at airports and niqqab, hijab, burka for photo IDs. At the time, I joked with a friend that American women (and men!) should start wearing hijab and hiding their faces... As a new latest fashion trend. Not for religious purposes. You know, sexy girl in a skimpy bikini... With a veil over her face. I figured once everyone does it, it's no longer special.

Little did I realize how prophetic my joke would be, until mask mandates happened....

Fate/god/the universe has a funny way of punishing you for your sense of humor.
