*Edit: I was friends with one who was involved in the creation of one of the AI driving systems, he has a Masters of Computer Science. At my work there are people whose job is to come up with AI who reads various sensors to perform safe shutdowns of equipment when dangerous conditions start to prevent catastrophic failures, and unless they have a portfolio to show their knowledge of AI, they are each masters level computer sci.

Maybe do a job search for AI/machine learning/neural networks, and I wager you'll find that this is the minimum entry requirement for most paid work.... again, unless you have some projects to prove your grasp of the topic.
